This course is an introduction to maternity and pediatric nursing. A holistic approach to nursing care for the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum patient and the neonate focuses upon the needs of the growing family. Complications occurring during pregnancy are considered. Care of the hospitalized pediatric client is examined as well as common disorders from infancy through adolescence. Medication administration and pediatric dosage calculations are incorporated. The nursing process and critical thinking skills are utilized in the maternity and pediatric settings.
